Custom Wine Gift Boxes: Double-Door Structure, Inserts and Sample Checks
Quick answer
A double-door wine gift box is worth considering when the opening should reveal the bottles together. Before choosing it, check bottle removal, loaded stability, door travel and the central seam. Size any matching bag from the finished outer box. The presentation shell still needs an assessed transport arrangement; door style alone does not establish protection.

At a glance
A twin-bottle packaging design review: compare double-door and lift-off boxes, plan bottle removal, specify matching bags and prepare a comparable supplier quote.
The decision: opening experience or simpler access?
The double-door layout reveals both bottles together. It suits a presentation in which the recipient opens the pack from the front. A lift-off lid offers a different interaction: remove one separate part, then access the insert from above. Neither structure is automatically the better purchase. Decide where the recipient will place the box, how much opening space is available and whether the set will be carried or posted.
What the example shows: and what remains to be specified
The design reference shows burgundy wrapping, a fine gold border, two bottle positions and optional matching accessories. It does not establish board thickness, bottle clearance, magnet strength or a shipping test result. These belong on the approved specification. Separate the structural board, wrapping paper, insert and closure components rather than requesting only a “luxury box”.
Opening study: two doors and a fitted insert; final geometry requires sampling.
03
The useful detail: review the removal path, not just the cavity
A cavity can look tidy while making a filled bottle difficult to remove. Supply each bottle’s maximum dimensions, including cap and decoration, and its filled weight. Ask where fingers will enter and which part of the bottle the user can grip. Check removal with both doors open, then check the remaining bottle stays located when its neighbour is lifted out. Avoid approving fit from nominal bottle capacity such as “750 ml”; bottle shapes with the same capacity can differ.
Paperboard, molded fibre and covered foam have different construction and appearance. Compare insert options using an actual bottle sample. A soft-looking surface is not proof of cushioning, and a snug cavity is not proof of transport protection.
04
Make the door seam part of the artwork brief
A continuous border must meet deliberately at the central seam. Ask for the left and right artwork files to be checked together, including wrap turn-ins and hinge areas. Keep critical small lettering away from a joint that could move slightly after wrapping. Review foil tone on the selected paper and the closed-door alignment on the physical sample. Hidden magnets should be reviewed for placement, polarity and closure with the filled insert installed.
05
Add the bag and card after confirming the finished box envelope
Size a matching bag from the finished external box dimensions in its carrying orientation, allowing practical insertion and hand clearance. Specify bag width × gusset × height. Test the handles and base with the complete load. A card should have a defined location so it does not obstruct the door or press against the bottles. Accessories shown in a hero image are optional components, not automatically included in a quote.

Buyer questions before ordering
Can the gift box be sent directly by courier?
Do not assume so. Define the outer shipping carton and protective arrangement, then review a suitable test with the filled pack for the distribution route. FEFCO publishes corrugated packaging test methods; listing a method is not evidence that this design has passed it.
Is a double-door box cheaper than a lift-off box?
There is no fixed answer without a matching specification. Ask the supplier to compare the same bottle count, materials, finish, quantity and delivery scope. Separate sample, tooling, accessory and freight charges.
What should I send for a quote?
Send bottle drawings or measurements, filled weights, units per set, quantity by artwork, destination and the intended distribution route. Include a preferred opening and whether a bag or card is required.
07
A practical approval checklist
Both bottles fit with removal access and cap clearance.
Both doors open fully and close without pressing on the contents.
The central seam and foil border align on the wrapped sample.
The bag accepts the finished box and complete load.
The transport pack and test scope are agreed separately.
