Custom Box Structures: Lift-Off, Magnetic, Drawer or Carton?

Write down the assembled product dimensions, filled weight, number of pieces, sales channel and intended opening sequence. Distinguish internal box size from the outer size used to plan a bag or shipper. A screen image is useful for visual direction, but does not establish dimensions or closing clearances. Select the structure first so that artwork follows the real panels and seams.

Lift-off versus magnetic: what changes for a bottle?
A lift-off rigid box has a separate cap and base. It exposes the contents when the cap is removed, but the user needs somewhere to put the lid. A magnetic book box keeps its lid attached at the spine and needs room for that lid to swing. Both require a bottle support and clearance over the cap. Choose the handling experience before choosing the finish. Compare the single-bottle lift-off design with the hinged skincare set layout; the latter illustrates a different product arrangement, not an interchangeable bottle insert.

Drawer, hexagonal and pillow are different structural decisions
A drawer tray moves inside a sleeve: review the pull attachment and product retention while it slides. A hexagonal lift-off box has matching six-sided components and needs a deliberate internal layout. A pillow carton closes at curved ends and offers a different usable volume from a rectangular tray. Keep the packaging families clear
Wrapped rigid board is one construction family; creased paperboard cartons and fluted corrugated packs are others. A corrugated mailer may also have a rear-hinged lid, but its folded walls and side wings are not the same construction as a wrapped magnetic book box. Approve opening and removal before print production
Load the sample with the actual contents. Remove the lid, slide the drawer or open the flap repeatedly as the customer would. Check the tall parts of the product, finger access, seam alignment and any ribbon pull. Then review artwork at the folds and wrap joins. Avoid assigning one clearance to every design: material thickness, dimensions and construction affect the fit.

Send two options for a useful comparison
Shortlist two structures with the same contents and quantity. Ask for the board, wrap, insert, print, finishes, setup charges and shipping scope to be identified separately. Is a magnetic box always more luxurious than a lift-off box?
No. Material feel, finish execution, fit and the intended opening experience matter. Compare physical samples for the same product rather than ranking quality by the closure alone.
Can a rigid box ship flat?
Some purpose-designed collapsible rigid boxes can fold flat. A conventional assembled lift-off box does not. Confirm the actual supplied configuration and the assembly required at your packing location.
Does a hinged lid make a mailer a rigid gift box?
No. A corrugated mailer uses fluted board and folded locking parts. A wrapped rigid book box uses a different board and assembly method even though both can open from the rear.
